I made some cupcakes to celebrate National Smallpox Eradication Day! Smallpox vaccination led to the global eradication of smallpox May 8th 1980, marking one of the greatest public health achievements in history! Before vaccination, smallpox caused an estimated 300–500 million deaths in the 20th century alone; after widespread vaccination, the disease was declared eradicated in 1980 with zero cases reported since. Vaccines work!
